How do you load film into a Kodak Duaflex 1?

I see the wind up knob is at the top of the compartment and a fixed, empty spool is at the bottom. However, all the manuals I found for other Duaflexes say to load the unexposed film onto the pivotal spool holder… I can’t do that, seeing as there’s a fixed spool on the pivotal holder. The wind up knob isn’t attached to anything, so I assume that’s where the unexposed roll goes – at the top? And it gets threaded into the fixed spool at the bottom? Let me know if I’m correct… I don’t know anything about box cameras. Thanks.
Kahless, you are my savior – I didn’t realize the bottom spool came out. This has also saved me the trouble of getting an empty 620 spool for respooling some 120. Thanks for your help!

The bottom spool is not a fixed spool. It is the empty spool that was left in the camera when the last person shot a roll. Just lift up on the spool, it pivots up. It is slightly snapped in. The whole bottom spool and the mechanism holding it will come up. You can then pull one of the sides off the spool and move it to the top where the film will wind up on to it. The directions should be printed on the inside of the film loading door. The full roll of film goes on the bottom so the paper side is out and it opens/rolls up. Good luck.
